HESLY Welded wiremesh Gabion

HESLY is also a manufacturer of pre-assembled welded wire mesh gabions and gabion mattresses which are made from welded wire mesh panels. Welded wire mesh means that each point of contact in the grid is actually welded to form a very rigid connection, making this type of gabion indispensable in achieving that perfectly flat, sharp appearance a structure should maintain.

 

The HESLY Welded Wire Gabions can be connected with other similar containers and filled with stones to form flexible and permeable structures for retaining the riverbanks and soil. Each gabion is constructed of rugged high tensile wire which is coated with a thick corrosion-resistant layer of zinc. The wire is also available with a tough, durable PVC coating. The use of high quality materials results in a longer, more reliable gabion life. Welded Wire Gabions are supplied from stock in a complete range of sizes. Non-typical sizes to fit your unique site conditions are also available upon request.

 

Advantages of Welded Wire Gabion

Welded gabions are faster to erect and do not need tensioning, this allows them to keep their original shape. Welded Wire Gabions install at a considerably faster rate than woven wire baskets. Studies have shown that welded wire baskets install at a rate that reduces labor costs by at least 50%.

Easy to install
Field installation is quick and easy .In fact, installation time can be as much as 40% less than required by hex type gabions. With diaphragms and stiffeners installed,the gabion may be filled with standard loading equipment.After filling the gabion, a lid is placed on top and secured with spiral binders,lacing wire or “C” rings .Unlike hexagonal units , Red Star welded wire Gabion hold their shape better – they don’t bulge out when filled .They are easy to handle,which means more work,less labor and higher productivity an the job.
 
 Step 1 : Flat Packed Gabion

Welded Gabionsare delivered on site in folded condition (flat-packed) on a pallet. All verical joints are factory fitted and that will increase the quality and speed of assembly on site. Depending upon the configuratinon of the Welded Gabions, the base and lid panels are connected with 1 horizontal helical. The accesories (bracing ties and joining pins) are prefabricated and adjusted to the Gabion type. To close the base and lids, additional spirals are included.

Step 2 : Pull Until Full Length Reached

Take a Gabions from a pallet and cut off the securing brace. Lift the accesories and pull the Gabion until full length is reached. Close the base with the helicals and fold the ends 90 inwards. Now the spirals won't detach when we move and turn the Gabion. This will also prevent sharp end and avoid injuries. This can be done with standard pliers. Now turn over the Gabion.

Step 3 : Joining

For large lengths, the Gabions should be connected to form a monolithic structure. Prefabricated joining pins are provided for each Gabion. Simply grasp the 2 spirals then push them into each other. Place the joining pin into the section and push it downwards. Care must be taken that the head of the joining pin faces inwards. This must be done for security and will prevent vandalism. The joining must be done at both sides.

Step 4 : Bracing Ties

As to prevent heavy deformation caused by filling the Gabions, bracing ties are included in each Gabion. Depending upon the height of the gabion, they are placed at 1/3 + 2/3 or 1/2 of the height.Now start filling the first part of the Gabion.Bracing ties are placed 4 meshes from the sides and around the weld position. If not, the weld will break or the bracing tie will move. Repeat this principle until the Gabions are fully filled.

Step 5 : Closing the Lid

After filling the Gabion, the lid will be closed. Use the included spirals and attach the lid at every edge including the diaphragm panel. Also twist the ends inwards for safety.When positioning Gabions, the horizontal connections must be done.This is usually carried out with the help of clips or lacing wire.

Remarks
Join the empty Gabions together beforehand. Then stretch or push the gabions to reach the desired length. The play in the spirals will allow for a perfect fit. Curves can also be made when using the play.
To maximize the output assembly, joining, filling, bracing and finishing the Gabion must be considered as a production line. The standard team is 3 workers and a crane with driver.
If the inclination is bigger than 10m, extra bracing must be used.
If the Gabion height is bigger than 1m, an extra row of bracing ties should be used.
Next to your own safety guidelines, we advise you to always carry security glasses,gloves and shoes.
Output can be maximized by using gabions with long length as this will result in less conections.

Weld mesh gabion are manufactured from cold drawn steel wire and strictly conform to BS1052:1986 for tensile strength. It is then electrically welded together and Hot Dip Galvanized or Al-Zn coated to BS443/EN10244-2, ensuring a longer life. The meshes can then be organic polymer coated to safeguard against corrosion and other weathering effects, especially when the are to be used in salty and highly polluted environments. Our Al-Zn mesh is coated using the Galfan process.

Applications of welded gabion:                                                                                                                   

COMMON GABION APPLICATIONS

RETAINING WALLS. Gabion walls can be built with speed and economy in all circumstances and are particularly suitable for landslide control in mountainous terrain and in areas with persistently unstable conditions. Where ground is liable to subside, the ability of gabions to deform makes them preferable to a concrete wall which would crack and collapse.

WEIRS. Gabion weirs, drop structures, and check dams are constructed across water courses as grade control structures, energy dissipaters, sediment collectors, as well as to form reservoirs, for water irrigation, and water supply in general.

Gabion weirs are normally provided with a gabion mattress scour protection apron both on their downstream side and at the upstream approach zone. The weir's crest or crown is always protected with a thin layer of concrete for abrasion protection of the gabion top.

REVETMENTS. Gabions are well suited as a protective covering on slopes, river banks, channels, etc., to prevent  erosion and stabilize. Gabions will withstand alternative tension and compression without losing their structural integrity and permeability.

FLEXIBLE APRONS. Gabions mattresses are commonly used to protect superstructures against the undermining action of river or sea water. Gabion mattresses will closely follow the changing contours of the bed as scouring progresses, until eventually the erosion is completely sealed off. Conventional noncompliant  structures necessitate deep foundations extending well below the maximum scour level and offer protection from settlement of the river or sea bed which might otherwise ultimately lead to their partial or total collapse.

COASTAL AND BEACH PROTECTION. Gabions and gabion mattresses offer excellent protection from wave action by dissipating the energy of impact. They are superior to rip rap because the highly corrosion resistant wire mesh prevents rock displacement while allowing conformation to changing grade.

MECHANICALLY STABILIZED EARTH WALLS. Gabions used in conjunction with the Anchor Mesh technology allows rapid construction of large gabion faced MSE walls. The Anchor Mesh Systems extends the gabion's  top and bottom panels into the back fill to form a continuous load bearing plane from the outer gabion surface deep into the wall for super stability, strength and durability.
